4 questions to make your Notion ✨spark joy✨

A few years ago, I went viral for the concept of the ‘Notion-Zine’. I love print layouts and at the end of the day, Notion is just blocks. A little bit of Notion-know-how and design principles goes a long way.

What do you need to track, store or share?
1. Once you figure out the things you need in these categories, you can streamline your system by building a solid database backend where everything speaks to each other. More info here →
Am I building for my laziest self?
1. Think about your ideal workflow. Are you seeing information where you need to see it using filtered linked databases and/or synced blocks? Are you automating actions using buttons, database automations or third-party tools? Think about this like your were designing for your home - imagine what you’ll need from the space in an ideal world and build around that - there’s a reason we keep shoes by the door!
Do I actually care about this thing or is it just fluffy-overengineering?
1. You have no idea how many times I’ll look at a client’s workspace and there are a bunch of database properties they aren’t using or aren’t using efficiently. If you find yourself with a property that’s almost always empty - chances are you’re being ambitious and you can get rid of it! The more streamlined your space is, the less you’ll be overwhelmed
Is this actually useful for my workflow or is it just a trend?
1. I won’t lie, a lot of productivity frameworks might not work for you - especially if you’re neurodivergent 🙂 I know this because I spend a lot of time breaking apart Notion templates based around specific workflows, or building from scratch, to fit my clients’ needs. Build around what works for you, not buzzwords.
