There is simply no better feeling than when the client uses the client portal you built in Notion instead of defaulting to email - small joys and wins!
My first introduction to building Notion systems was building client portals at my last day job - project managing at a Shopify agency. My thoughts were, there MUST be an easier way to manage client tasks/progress without sifting through endless messy email chains.
My Notion ‘aha’ moment came when I realised I could save HOURS of my life by templating our entire process inside a client portal. By having each step of our process & requirements pre-built in Notion, at the beginning of each project, all I had to do is ‘click a button’ to generate everything I needed.
I still swear by this process for my Notion consulting projects and coaching calls. In fact, Notion is quickly becoming the tool of choice for freelancer project management (see tweet above!). No wonder my freelancer client portal template has been downloaded more than 100 times.

One of my favourite Notion traditions is how Notion employees aka ‘Notinos’ get these little LEGO figures for their work anniversaries - a new LEGO block for every year that they have worked at Notion.
From a branding/values perspective, this is a special touch that adds to the magic of what Notion stands for. Notion is often described as ‘digital LEGO’ and these mini-figures directly tap into this concept. They demonstrate Notion’s playful & community-driven company spirit, while improving employee engagement and ‘sense of belonging’.
Anyone who sees these posts instantly ‘catches’ the vibe that 'Notion isn’t just ‘a productivity tool’ and is inspired to explore it more, or even apply to work there. At the same time, ‘collecting blocks’ taps into the same psychology as collecting stickers for your achievements as a kid. It’s a simple, playful idea that has BIG results. You WANT to collect that next block and you WANT to show it off.
Overall, a solid but simple emblem of identity that a lot of brands could learn from.
